Goodbye, July

Bring it on, August. Bring it on.

At least I have ice cream...

Random.

July Fades

Can you believe July is almost at an end? In mere days it will be August, and then September, when things start to cool off...at least in Manitoba they sure do. Then the October cold will set in, and it will start to feel like winter. I'm dreading winter...I'm finally settling into the warm weather (which took forever to get here) and the mere thought of having winter again is enough to make anyone depressed.

Oh well...just focus on your garden, Ash. Focus on your garden...

Igor likes to help in the garden...or rather he likes it when I go to the garden so he can wander off around the rest of our yard, as well as the neighbours when I'm not looking. Such defiance, so doge.

The peas are climbing. I love weathered old wood...it sounds cheesy, but it adds such a sweet "charm" to the garden. Makes me feel all whimsical.

A, sort of, garden overview. Pumpkins are the closest in view, then cantaloupes, Cinderella pumpkins, and the furthest two beds contain carrots and beets. Oh, and there's a whole lot of dill overtaking the one bed. The soil on the right was dug up and planted some small rows of corn, along with a pretty metal archway, which has peas, sweet peas, and morning glories climbing up. Random peas on the right, and behind some of the carrots and beets.

I went a little crazy with coloured plant pots this year. I have to say, Dollarama was my friend. They have (or rather, had) an abundance of pretty colourful plant pots this year and they are, of course, crazy cheap to buy. They were 1.25$ and 1.50$ (I think?) for each, which is probably the best price I've found anywhere around here.

Two of three plant pots inside the arch. I picked up the three plant pots last year at a yard sale for 10 cents each, a steal of a deal. The orange and olive green pots are obviously old (70s/80s), and the third one, which is pink, is much newer but seems to just work with the other two really well. You can see the peas and morning glories climbing up the arch and branches along the arch.

More Dollarama goodness! These were amazing, and I wish I'd bought more while they had them. Great shape, fun colours, and they're made of bamboo. You constantly see plastic plant pots being thrown away either because people don't like them anymore or because they crack, so these being biodegradable is brilliant. Why don't we see more of these? At only 1.25$ they're the same price or cheaper than most plastic ones. No brainer.

Marigolds. These things have grown on me since my childhood. Brilliant for keeping away pests that can affect your garden veggies, they grow in almost any soil, and the orange and yellows stand out and look crazy pretty. I'll be starting these indoors in the spring again.

More marigolds, this time along with carrots and beets...being over-taken by dill...

Wild flowers...you can't go wrong with a packet of wildflower seeds, you just know SOMETHING will come of it.

Peas and a pink flamingo poking through. Old branches make great trellises, and they look so rustic and pretty.

Cantaloupes...cannot express how much I want fresh cantaloupes in the garden...

Cosmos flowers are really quite pretty...especially when they're inside a gnome plant pot.

A pumpkin, of course. The Cinderella variety here, one of many little baby pumpkins that have already popped up. As always, looking forward to these orange babies for the fall festivities.

Sometimes technology is unfriendly.
