Oh, ho ho ho [Photo Dump!]

http://instagram.com/p/w2qQVMhRzZ/
I have been absent far too much these days. Each of my usual sites to visit have been neglected and my visits have been sparse. It feels as though most of my time is spent trying to keep the house tidy, trying to make some decent meals, and keep myself semi-stress-free. Unfortunately in doing so, my online life has suffered. It seems as if I barely post or visit hardly any of the sites I used to.

The holiday season has been, surprisingly, nice. Relatively stress free, calm, and enjoyable. Since I live with my father, I only have a few spaces of my own in the house and during the holidays his decorations take over...meaning mine are confined to almost no space. I felt slightly negative about the holidays early in the season and had even said I wasn't going to bother putting up my precious psychedelic silver tree...but then I did. I hate that it's stuffed into a little corner and over half of it is unusable, but I'm so glad I did put it up. It may seem silly, but I enjoy just admiring my funny tree, and all my old (and some newer) ornaments.

The decorations are honestly one of my favourite aspects of this time of year. This time of year up here in Manitoba is very cold, dark, and dreary, so all the lights add just a little happiness and light to what is otherwise a terrible time of year. When the ornaments and lights come down after new years I go into a slight depression and it feels daunting to think about the remaining MONTHS of winter left to suffer through.......but I'll try not to think about that until it happens.

I hardly took any photos with my dslr, but my phone was snapping away. Most of them posted exclusively to my instagram. Sometimes I feel like my phone negatively effects my life...I neglect using my laptop and therefore stop using many of my regular sites. I use my dslr less and less because the phone is just more convenient, which is probably the part that makes me feel the worst. That being said, my eyes are much happier to not stare at the laptop screen just the communicate on certain sites and I suspect I have a few less headaches because of it. Pros and cons, I suppose.

Ah, well. Here's hoping everyone out there had a lovely (and relatively stress-free) holiday season. Here we come, 2015...

October Is Almost Over...

 https://www.flickr.com/photos/obsequies/15382926227/
It should come as no surprise that this blog has been so neglected, much like the other parts of my life that I once prided myself upon keeping up.

Halloween is less than a week away now and sales have come to a stop...and I didn't get nearly enough finished and sold. Again, it's no surprise and has been the story of my life this past year. I find myself uncaring about virtually everything and with winter on the way I see less and less to look forward to. I'm still fighting to get my car back (just so that I can sell it and get my money back), my garden is all done, the weather is getting cold, and the pretty leaves are almost entirely finished now. I dread the winter, and every day it gets closer things feel a little more and more hopeless.

There are still many movies and shows that I normally watch this time of year in anticipation of Halloween, and I haven't even the drive to watch half of them yet. The decorations are up, the fabric for my costume is ready to be used, the candy is ready to be handed out, and I still feel...nothing.

On the slight upside, I did buy a cheap smart phone. I finally have a phone that can be used as a phone (the speaker in my old one died...) and use the internets. I even have an instagram account. Go figure.

Self pity, self pity. Happy Ocotober.

Fumble And Fall

https://www.flickr.com/photos/obsequies/15151095010/
Normally fall is something that is looked forward to. Pretty leaves, sweater weather, home baked goodies, and (of course) pumpkins and Halloween. This year I just feel like I have nothing to look forward to now. After finally getting a ride out of my area to view some vehicles, purchase a vehicle, just to take it to a shop and have that shop try to take advantage of me...ending up in a legal battle to get the car back without having to pay for this shop unlawfully trying to charge me as much as the car cost...and with gardening season at it's end, I'm having an extremely difficult time trying to find anything to look forward to.

This summer I had hoped to do so much but instead wasted it at home waiting for a ride to the nearest city (only two hours away, I might add) just to look at vehicles. A simple thing like buying a vehicle, instead I waited around, frustrated...trying hard to focus myself on the garden, the only thing that felt like it was going well. Instead the summer was wasted on nothing but frustration and self pity, waiting for something to happen and even only getting to the lake a couple of times, despite the fact that it's only a ten minute drive away.

The leaves went quickly this year...
I hate everything...

Goodbye, July

Bring it on, August. Bring it on.

At least I have ice cream...

Random.

July Fades

Can you believe July is almost at an end? In mere days it will be August, and then September, when things start to cool off...at least in Manitoba they sure do. Then the October cold will set in, and it will start to feel like winter. I'm dreading winter...I'm finally settling into the warm weather (which took forever to get here) and the mere thought of having winter again is enough to make anyone depressed.

Oh well...just focus on your garden, Ash. Focus on your garden...

Igor likes to help in the garden...or rather he likes it when I go to the garden so he can wander off around the rest of our yard, as well as the neighbours when I'm not looking. Such defiance, so doge.

The peas are climbing. I love weathered old wood...it sounds cheesy, but it adds such a sweet "charm" to the garden. Makes me feel all whimsical.

A, sort of, garden overview. Pumpkins are the closest in view, then cantaloupes, Cinderella pumpkins, and the furthest two beds contain carrots and beets. Oh, and there's a whole lot of dill overtaking the one bed. The soil on the right was dug up and planted some small rows of corn, along with a pretty metal archway, which has peas, sweet peas, and morning glories climbing up. Random peas on the right, and behind some of the carrots and beets.

I went a little crazy with coloured plant pots this year. I have to say, Dollarama was my friend. They have (or rather, had) an abundance of pretty colourful plant pots this year and they are, of course, crazy cheap to buy. They were 1.25$ and 1.50$ (I think?) for each, which is probably the best price I've found anywhere around here.

Two of three plant pots inside the arch. I picked up the three plant pots last year at a yard sale for 10 cents each, a steal of a deal. The orange and olive green pots are obviously old (70s/80s), and the third one, which is pink, is much newer but seems to just work with the other two really well. You can see the peas and morning glories climbing up the arch and branches along the arch.

More Dollarama goodness! These were amazing, and I wish I'd bought more while they had them. Great shape, fun colours, and they're made of bamboo. You constantly see plastic plant pots being thrown away either because people don't like them anymore or because they crack, so these being biodegradable is brilliant. Why don't we see more of these? At only 1.25$ they're the same price or cheaper than most plastic ones. No brainer.

Marigolds. These things have grown on me since my childhood. Brilliant for keeping away pests that can affect your garden veggies, they grow in almost any soil, and the orange and yellows stand out and look crazy pretty. I'll be starting these indoors in the spring again.

More marigolds, this time along with carrots and beets...being over-taken by dill...
https://www.flickr.com/photos/obsequies/14763274222/
Wild flowers...you can't go wrong with a packet of wildflower seeds, you just know SOMETHING will come of it.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/obsequies/14576898640/
Peas and a pink flamingo poking through. Old branches make great trellises, and they look so rustic and pretty.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/obsequies/14763265202/
Cantaloupes...cannot express how much I want fresh cantaloupes in the garden...
https://www.flickr.com/photos/obsequies/14576958389/
Cosmos flowers are really quite pretty...especially when they're inside a gnome plant pot.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/obsequies/14576960918/
A pumpkin, of course. The Cinderella variety here, one of many little baby pumpkins that have already popped up. As always, looking forward to these orange babies for the fall festivities.

Let's Grow 2014

https://www.flickr.com/photos/obsequies/14360302123/
This years garden is all about rustic and pops of pretty colours. With my great neglect of this blog, there are a few photos from back in late March when my spring fever started.

After a long, awful winter, I've tried to focus myself on positive thoughts, starting different projects, and making plans. Gardening took over my thoughts and kept me more pre-occupied. I've been having a really hard time caring about anything (seriously, anything.) since the end of 2013 so immersing myself in anything positive is what is keeping me going. While I may not care about much right now, life carries on and I continue to try pulling myself through.

Luckily for me the stores had plenty of pretty, colourful little things to catch my fancy and add a little excitement to my life this year. Colourful square-ish plant pots made of bamboo, a pretty floral trowel, and of course plenty of seeds! I took an old fashioned wooden toolbox that had been sitting on my shelf for ages, and revamped it with a rainbow of paint colours to house all of my seed packets and bits and bobs.
